Genesis aims for her artistry to cause people to fall in love with the theater for the same reasons she has. The work she resonates with the most causes her to either understand a different perspective, see a version of herself she has not seen represented, or heal a deeper, unsettled feeling that she has not reckoned with before. With her performance work, Genesis aims to evoke feelings of compassion, recognition, and healing in others through her connection with the material and to the audience. To do so, she finds participating in work that not only uplifts marginalized voices, but also challenges the boxes that Black artists and Black artistry are confined to. By uplifting marginalized experiences and untold stories, Genesis desires to reach a variety of people by providing them with a sense of recognition and relatability, while also opening up the understanding of those with different experiences.
